It All Began With a Common Interest
In the late 1950s, several people in Spring Valley spoke many times about forming a garden club. Finally, the idea was brought before the Frankford Grange as a community service project. The Grange furnished 30 postcards to be mailed out to possible interested people.
The first meeting of the Spring Valley Flower and Garden Club, as it was known back then, was on March 10, 1960. Eleven people gathered in the public library community room. The name of the club was chosen and bylaws were drawn up, including meeting time, membership fees, officer election, and use of the membership fees. The club contined to grow over the next few meetings and soon had 18 committed charter members.
Over the past 60+ years the Spring Valley Garden Club has had over 100 members, hosted or participated in flower shows nearly every one of those 60 years, has visited countless gardens, and has planted thousands of flowers in and around Spring Valley. Our commitment to our community continues.
